Books as Gifts
We are huge bibliophiles in my house; my husband is a voracious reader and I have a large library of art books that I have collected through my years working at different museums. I love the idea of giving books as gifts so here are a few to consider when shopping this holiday season.
Creative Acts for Curious People (by Sarah Stein Greenberg at Stanford’s D-School)
Sophie Taeuber-Arp: Living Abstraction by Anne Umland, Walburga Krupp, Charlotte Healy
Mina Stone’s Cooking for Artists or Lemon, Love, and Olive Oil
Open Studio (Do-It-Yourself Art Projects by Contemporary Artists) by Amanda Benchley and Sharon Coplan Hurowitz
Young, Gifted, and Black by Antwaun Sargent
1000 Years of Joys and Sorrows: A Memoir by Ai Weiwei
Agnes Martin: Painting, Writings, Remembrances by Arne Glimcher
Life Meets Art by Sam Lubell
For Kids:
Making a Great Exhibition by Doro Globus
How to Spot an Artist by Danielle Krysa
What is Contemporary Art? A Guide for Kids by Jacky Klein
One final thought on the holidays and books: if at all possible, try and support your local independent booksellers by purchasing these through them.
