Best of NYC Fall Gallery Shows

I was recently in New York City and able to check out a number of gallery shows across the city. I am posting some highlights below!

One show, which really kept me thinking, is “IRL” at Tanya Bonakdar. IRL stands for “In Real Life” and the show presents artworks that simply must be experienced in real life in order to fully appreciate them; works that may fall flat in digital images. For example, one work by Olafur Eliasson appears to be glass shperes of colors that span the rainbow, but as you approach the work and look from another angle, the color is no longer visible. Depending on your angle, your perception of the work changes. It reminded me how despite the advances the art-world has made in terms of sharing and acquiring art through digital channels, ultimately, art is best appreciated in person.
