Artist to Watch: Charlotte Keates

Keates is known for her acrylic and oil paintings of interiors. Drawing inspiration from technical blueprints, architectural drawings and found polaroid slides, the spaces Keates paints recall the interior design trends of the 1960s and 1970s, while also incorporating surreal elements such as floating staircases and the interference of the natural world. Created from a combination of the artist’s memory and imagination, her paintings, which are never populated by a human presence, encourage the viewer to situate themselves within the depicted space.

Keates recent show in the UK is nearly sold out and her work will soon be shown at the Armory Show in September.
