New York Art Week
Next week, New York Art Week begins, featuring art fairs, special exhibitions and arts programming across the city. Here a look at some of my favorites art fairs which start on May 5:
Independent: After a run last Fall at Cipriani’s sexy new South Street location, Independent will take place at it’s original home at Spring Studios in Tribeca. This fair is known for it’s curatorial prowess and for mixing emerging and established artists. Thursday VIP Opening; open Friday-Sunday.
NADA: NADA which stands for the New Art Dealers Alliance, will take place at Pier 36 featuring the very best from contemporary emerging talent from around the world. Thursday VIP Opening; open Friday-Sunday.
TEFAF: TEFAF will take place at the Park Avenue Armory featuring modern and contemporary art, jewelry, antiquities, and design. Thursday VIP Opening; open Friday-Tuesday.
Future Fair: The new kid on the block, with a mission of transparency and collaboration with it’s gallery partners, Future Fair will take place at the Chelsea Industrial. Wednesday VIP Opening; open Friday-Saturday.
As I’ve mentioned before in my newsletter, prior to arriving at the art fairs, it is critical to do your homework and have a plan if you plan to acquire art. See my other blog post about 3 key mistakes to avoid when buying art at art fairs.
Looking ahead to later in May, look out for FRIEZE Art Fair as well as VOLTA.
