February Exhibitions
February has the art world abuzz with art fairs, immersive installations, and fantastic museum exhibitions.
Here’s a list of some noteworthy museum and gallery shows on my radar in the top cities where I work:
Bay Area:
- SFMoMA has a great Tauba Auerbach show up now.
- de Young will open the acclaimed Alice Neel: People Come First show on March 12 (don’t miss it!).
- The Cantor is opening a Gordon Parks exhibition on February 23 and save the date for a Ruth Asawa installation which opens this Summer.
- Jessica Silverman is showing Hayal Pozanti and Julian Hoeber until February 26.
Miami:
- Nina Johnson is showing Rochelle Feinstein: You Again, part of a six-venue, international exhibition of new and historic work.
- If you haven’t seen the work of British painter Jadé Fadojutimi, I highly recommend you go check it out at ICA Miami; it closes on April 17.
- PAMM has recently opened Simone Leigh: Trophallaxis (Leigh will be representing the United States in April at the Venice Biennale).
- If you want to organize a trip to Palm Beach, I recommend stopping by Gavlak’s Friends with You show as well as Acquavella’s Miquel Barceló exhibition.
New York:
- The Shed currently has an immersive sensory experience by Argentinian artist Tomás Saraceno (who also has a concurrent show at Tanya Bonakdar gallery).
- MOMA has a fantastic show about Sophie Taeuber-Arp (closing March 12) and looking ahead to May, will have a show on Matisse.
- This Spring, the Whitney museum will host its much anticipated Biennial.
- The New Museum just opened the most comprehensive exhibition to date of Faith Ringgold.
Try to get out and look at some art! It’s good for you.
